Do I need an International Driving Permit in Montenegro?
For visitors on a short trip. The rules depend on where your license was issued. Last reviewed November 3, 2026.
Short answer: An International Driving Permit is recommended. Visitors to Montenegro can usually drive on a valid foreign license for short stays, but police and rental companies may ask for an IDP or a translation. If your license isn't in Montenegrin, a translation helps people read your details. Check the latest rules before you travel.
